Self Care Mini Series: Acupuncture For The First Time

Self Care Mini Series: Acupuncture For The First Time

Hello Darling!

If there is anything that postpartum + pandemic life has taught me, is that self care is so important. With the craziness of our current lives it can be so easy to forget to take care of yourself- especially as a new mom. So, I thought it would be fun to share a self care mini series over this next month sharing all the best spots to visit for a little “me” time in one of my very favorite shopping centers in Houston – the River Oaks Shopping Center. To kick it off, I am sharing my experience trying acupuncture for the first time.

Acupuncture For The First

Self Care Mini Series: Acupuncture For The First Time

Over the years I have heard friends and doctors rave about acupuncture. With benefits ranging from relief from chronic pain, stress, anxiety, injuries and much more. As a new mom there are lots of aches and pains that come with postpartum life. One of my main issues I have experienced since having baby girl is ” mommy wrist”- essentially tendinitis in the thumb and wrist. I have been working with my chiropractor to help with the pain and she suggested that acupuncture might be a great treatment to try along with the chiropractic work.

Modern Acupuncture

After doing some research I found out about Modern Acupuncture located in the heart of the River Oaks Shopping Center. What caught my eye about Modern Acupuncture is their ” modern” way of experiencing the age old benefits of the acupuncture.

Walking in you are greeted by their friendly staff and taken into their “zen room”. This room is filled with massage chairs divided by curtains for privacy and less distraction. You will find that majority of those already receiving treatments are taking naps. As sleep helps heal the body the most they recommend taking a nap during sessions. Between the dimmed lights, calming music, and over all relaxing atmosphere it is just the space you need to experience a little self care time.

Questions

How does acunpunture work?

The insertion of the needles produces endorphins, which help decrease your perception of pain. The goal of acupuncture is to reduce pain while increasing blood flow and stimulating muscles/ nerves throughout the body.

Did it hurt?

Not at all! As someone who is not a fan of needles, it was truly painless. The needles are so tiny you don’t feel a thing.

What did it feel like?

I personally did not feel much at all. In certain areas I could feel a tiny prick but nothing that was painful.

How long are the sessions?

Around 30 minutes.

How many sessions are needed for acupuncture to be effective?

It depends on your specific needs and what you are trying to address. You can go anywhere from 5 times a week to once a month and see results.

My Thoughts

My overall thoughts about my first time experience are super positive. I enjoyed the experience, felt very relaxed, loved the staff and the location in River Oaks Shopping Center and to top it off have already felt relief in my wrist! I have gone ahead and signed up for a membership for the next month. As I continue I will keep you updated on my experience and thoughts.

Currently Modern Acupuncture is offeingr first session FREE. If you are interested in trying it I could not recommend it more! Check them out and book your first session here.

Super excited to share a few fun self care posts over the next month. Stay tuned for more!

YOU ARE SO LOVED!

XOXO,Tay
